Cambodia's capital city is a fascinating blend of French colonial architecture and modern development. Walking along the riverfront at sunset, watching locals and tourists alike enjoy the cool evening breeze, I felt the unique energy of this resilient city.

The Royal Palace with its shimmering silver pagoda left me in awe. Its golden Buddha statues and elaborate murals told stories of Cambodian history and spirituality. Just nearby, the National Museum houses one of the world's finest collections of Khmer art, from ancient sculptural masterpieces to delicate ceramics.

No visit to Phnom Penh would be complete without acknowledging its difficult past. The Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Choeung Ek served as powerful reminders of the Khmer Rouge regime. These weren't easy places to visit, but I believe understanding history is essential to understanding a nation.

The markets stole my heart – from the bustling Russian Market with its maze of stalls to the riverside Night Market where I sampled grilled corn and fresh fruit shakes. The food scene here deserves more attention, with Khmer cuisine offering subtle flavors that reward the adventurous palate.
