SEOUL SEARCHING

Seoul is a city that never stops surprising. Where else can you wander through a 600-year-old royal palace in the morning and find yourself in a neon-lit K-pop karaoke room by night? The contrast between hanok villages and futuristic skyscrapers defines this endlessly fascinating capital.

Bukchon Hanok Village transported me back in time, its traditional Korean houses with their curved roofs and wooden lattices standing in quiet defiance of the modern city surrounding them. At Gyeongbokgung Palace, I watched the changing of the guard ceremony, their vibrant costumes a riot of color against the grey stone walls.

My taste buds embarked on their own adventure – from sizzling bulgogi at a local BBQ joint to steaming bowls of kimchi jjigae in a basement restaurant. The street food scene in Myeongdong had me trying everything from tornado potatoes to ice cream wrapped in pastel colors. And the 24-hour shopping district never sleep, ensuring restless souls like mine always have somewhere to wander.

Seoul doesn't just welcome visitors – it absorbs them, making them feel like part of its own ongoing story.
